Boskalis acquires USD 40 million contract for transporting Johan Sverdrup platform modules

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been awarded a contract by Samsung Heavy Industries for the transportation of the three topside modules of the riser platform and the topside of the processing platform for the Johan Sverdrup project offshore Norway. The contract carries a value of approximately USD 40 million. The modules will be transported by Dockwise in three journeys. A Dockwise type I heavy transport vessel will transport two topside modules of the riser platform with a total weight of more than 20,000 MT and a Dockwise type II vessel will transport the third 6,000 MT module in the first half of 2018. The modules will be transported from the yard in Geoje, South Korea to the project site offshore Norway where they will be offloaded. Read More

TSHD Sospan Dau Completes Cardiff Harbor Maintenance Dredging

Boskalis Westminster’s trailing suction hopper dredger Sospan Dau has been busy this January, carrying out the winter maintenance dredging program for the Cardiff Harbor Authority. The works started in early January, and for the past three weeks, the dredging vessel MV Sospan Dau – supported with the MV Avanti and Tioga B – has been performing dredging works in Cardiff Bay Barrage Outer Harbor and the approach channel. Atlas Account Manager returns from the New Suez Canal expansion project

Since its completion in August, the biggest project of 2015, the New Suez Canal has achieved its ambitious deadline. The 22 mile waterway will be the route for approximately 8% of the world’s shipping traffic, becoming the main route for Europe and the Middle East. Atlas Account Manager, Tim van der Stelt was asked by Boskalis to represent them on the project as their HR Consultant. Eight months on, Tim is back in the Netherlands assuming his role in Atlas’ Hoofddorp office. Van Oord with partner Royal Boskalis Westminster has won a major land reclamation contract in Indonesia.

The contract, awarded by the PT Muara Wisesa Samudra, includes design and construction of the artificial island under the Dredging and Land Development Project for Pluit City off the coast of Jakarta. The contract has a value of approximately EUR 350 million (shared equally between Boskalis and Van Oord). This project involves reclaiming approximately 160 hectares of new land requiring in excess of 20 million cubic meters of dredged sand. Two jumbo trailing suction hopper dredgers will be deployed for the dredging and reclamation activities sourcing sand from local borrow areas. Soil improvement and rock revetment works also form part of the project. Work will start immediately and the project is expected to be completed in 2018. When constructed, the new island will be used for both residential and commercial purposes. Read More
